The 4003 is Rickenbacker’s flagship bass. Its thick, wild sound is truly one-of-a-kind. It continues to captivate many bassists to this day.

This particular model, manufactured in 2008, features a maple through-neck and a rosewood fingerboard—the most popular wood combination—and is equipped with two high-gain pickups.
The controls include 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, a 3-way pickup selector, dual output jacks (Standard / Rick-O-Sound stereo output), and a Vintage Tone circuit.
A push/pull function has been added to the treble tone knob: when the knob is pulled out, a circuit that routes the signal through a capacitor (Vintage Tone Selector) is activated, producing a metallic, edgy, and sharp sound reminiscent of the 4001. When the knob is pushed in, you can enjoy the punchy, rich bass that’s unique to the current 4003!
It also features a pickup fence and mute mechanism not found on current models, making this a guitar that’s packed with quintessential Rickenbacker characteristics—not just in looks but in sound as well!
While the exterior is in relatively good condition for its age, there is a small dent on the back of the neck around the 5th fret and a long scratch on the top. Fine dents, scuffs, and buckle marks are visible throughout.
The neck is also in generally good condition and poses no issues for playing.
