Original 1980s Superstar Snare Drum

This is a 14x8-inch deep-shell Artwood snare drum, believed to be a model from around the mid-1980s.
It features a 6-ply birch shell and a full-head snare—a specification that was popular at the time—and is made in Japan.

The die-cast hoops effectively support the springy mid-to-low frequencies characteristic of a deep-shell birch snare, and combined with the all-over snare wire, it produces a fat, well-defined sound.

As this is an older snare, there is some minor wear on the parts, but it has been well-preserved overall; the shell is clean and shows no major damage. It is in good condition.

It features white covering; since this color wasn’t listed in catalogs from that era, it may have been a custom order.

Among Japanese-made drums from the ’80s, this one exudes a robust, distinctive presence
and is a rather rare snare drum.
