The original headstock shape of the Yamaha FG features a logo modeled after a tuning fork. The truss rod cover is engraved with "Since 1966," signifying the origins of Yamaha guitars.

Aiming to achieve an ideal, warm tone, we have refined the design through a combination of virtual prototyping using the latest acoustic analysis simulation technology and physical prototyping via woodworking. Compared to the scalloped bracing used in the FG/FS#800 series, we have optimized the bracing to match the characteristics of the wood itself and the specific body shapes of the FG and FS models, achieving further expansion of the low-frequency range.

The top is treated with Yamaha’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) process. By precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, this process replicates the natural aging changes that occur in wood over a long period after milling within a short timeframe. This enhances sound transmission and vibration efficiency, promoting the extension of mid-to-low frequencies while increasing the attack of high frequencies and accelerating their decay.The A.R.E. treatment produces a well-balanced, mature, and warm sound with minimal harsh overtones, creating a tone reminiscent of a guitar that has been played for years.

The newly developed Atmosfeel 3-way pickup system features an under-saddle piezo sensor for the mid-low range, a microphone built into the preamp for the low range, and a proprietary ultra-thin contact sensor for the high range—three distinct pickups that reliably capture each frequency range. By adding a contact sensor made of thin, durable piezoelectric synthetic paper to the interior (near the back of the bridge), the system reproduces the cohesion of string vibrations emanating from the soundhole—which conventional pickups could not fully capture—as well as the sustain of each individual string, the tactile feel of fingering, and the airy, delicate tones produced by high-frequency harmonics. It delivers the sensation of playing an acoustic guitar unamplified directly through the line output.
