2014 Custom Shop made, mahogany body with elbow cut.

A mahogany body reproduction of that model that EC held during his first visit to Japan.

This boldly cut mahogany-bodied Explorer is based on a '58. The neck is also made of mahogany, and is thicker overall, just like a 58. The basic construction is the tubeless truss rod and hide glue neck fit specification from 2013 onward, but not the long stud anchor specification. So it's a transitional period in terms of the explorer.
The PU is the original Custombacker Alnico III, which is no longer a classic. The capacitor is of course a replica Bumblebee. The pegs are Grover mini type.

The body has wipe scratches, scuffs, line scratches, and dings. It is finished with a cloudy VOS and is not shiny in parts from heavy use. There is a cloudy, picking scratch on the right side of the rear PU. The top of the body is dotted with small dings, and the outer edges are also dotted with dings. There is a thin line scratch on the lower right side of the body back, and a little buckle scratch in the center of the body back. There is also a scratch on the tip of the head and a small ding on the top of the head by the 6th string peg. Each piece of hardware is gold, and has some chipping and smudging from VOS production and use. Also, the front Vol knob and tone knob have some cracks inside as is typical for this period, but they are not operational.

The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod can be adjusted in the direction to tighten or loosen, and can still be turned to tighten and adjust. There are no string marks on the frets and about 80% of the strings are left. Currently, the string height is adjusted at about 2.0mm on the 6th string (12F) and about 1.5mm on the 1st string (12F).

Overall, there are some dents and scratches, but all of them are natural and not too uncomfortable. It gives the impression of having been handled with care commensurate with its age.
The elbow-cut Explorer model was reproduced several times by the Custom Shop in the past, and this 2014 model is equipped with a tubeless truss rod that boasts outstanding strength and sound, and a Custom Bucker that is highly regarded for its smooth sound with no leaning, making it an ideal upgrade item from the old specs. It is also a perfect upgrade item from the old specs. This is the perfect instrument to recreate the impact of your visit to Japan, and you will want to hold it yourself in front of a stack of amps!

2014年カスタムショップ製、マホガニーボディのエルボーカット仕様

あのECが初来日時に抱えていたあのモデルをマホガニーボディで再現。

大胆にカットされたマホガニーボディのエクスプローラーは58年製をベースとしております。ネックも同様にマホガニーで、58らしく全体的に肉厚に仕上げられております。基本的な構造は2013年製以降のチューブレストラスロッド、ハイドグルーネックフィット仕様ですが、ロングスタッドアンカー仕様ではありませんでした。エクスプロラー的には過渡期な感じなんですね。
PUはオリジナルでもはや名機なCustombacker Alnico IIIを搭載。キャパシターはもちろんレプリカのバンブルビーです。ペグはグローバーのミニタイプを採用。

ボディには拭きキズ、スリキズ、線キズ、打痕があります。曇った感じなVOSで仕上げられており、激しく使用してテカリが部分的に出てるような事はありません。リアPU右脇には曇った感じでピッキングキズがあります。ボディトップには小さな打痕が点々とあり、外周エッジ部分にも点々と打痕が点在しております。ボディバック右下には薄っすらと線キズがあり、ボディバック中央には少しバックルキズがあります。またヘッド先端部分には当てキズがあり、ヘッドトップ6弦ペグ脇にも小さな打痕が点々とあります。各ハードウェアはゴールドで、VOSの演出と使用により、メッキ落ちやクスミがあります。またフロントVolノブとトーンノブにこの時期にありがちな内側のクラックがありますが動作には問題ありません。

ネックコンディションは問題なく、トラスロッドは締める方向緩める方向に調整可能で、締める方向にまだ回せ調整可能です。フレットには弦跡等は無く残りは8割程です。現状弦高は12F6弦側で約2.0mm、1弦側で約1.5mmで調整されております。

全体的には打痕等ありますがいずれも自然な感じで違和感は少なめ。年式相応の丁寧に扱われていた印象です。
過去にカスタムショップで何回か再現されていたエルボーカットのエクスプローラーモデル。2014年製だけあって抜群の強度と鳴りを誇るチューブレストラスロッド、もたつきのないスムースなサウンドで評価が高いカスタムバッカーを搭載しており旧仕様からのグレードアップアイテムにも最適です。あの来日時のインパクトを再現するにも最適な一本で、自身で抱えてスタックアンプの前で抱えたいですね!
