Description
This is a French Selmer Mark 7, manufactured in 1979, which was a model change from the Mark 6 that had been in production for about 20 years, with larger key parts and a reexamination of the tube thickness and design. The jazz scene at that time also had a background of the time when electric instruments began to spread from acoustic compositions, and this Mark 7 is a masterpiece that supported music such as fusion, rock, and crossover.
Overall, there are scratches and minor dents from use. Rust is visible. There is a dent on the neck that has been repaired. The oct key base of the body is slightly sunken. The U-tube has a dent repair, and the key post base has a dent repair. The bell tube and bell flare have been repaired with dents and bends. All tampos have been replaced and pads are in good condition. The bell is carved and the original lacquer remains on the entire instrument. The sound is good, and although it is starting to lose some of its character, it still has a lot of future potential.
The sound is bright and clear, with a fat tone similar to that of the later SA80s. Although there are some repair marks, there is no negative impression in terms of blowing feel. The Mark 7 is often categorized as a rock fusion instrument, but it is one that acoustic players should also try. The Mark 7 has a one-of-a-kind character that makes it a very attractive instrument, so if you are not satisfied with the sound of modern saxophones, please give it a try.
