A 2011 Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue has arrived.
With its wide tiger-flame pattern that doesn’t overpower the instrument, this figure maple top—which exudes understated elegance—may be a rare find.
Weighing approximately 4.1 kilograms, this guitar may appeal particularly to connoisseurs and seasoned players who are well-versed in vintage LP Standards.
The VOS finish—with its subtle damage to the lacquer and a hazy patina that evokes the look of natural wear—creates a mature, understated charm, making this a particularly appealing instrument.
Additionally, the weathered finish on the metal hardware—a hallmark of the VOS style—is skillfully rendered: wear resulting from the player’s movements during performance is emphasized, while other areas show a more subtle, gentle patina.
The crack-like marks that have appeared near the center of the neck pickup and tone control knobs also add to the instrument’s excellent character.
The control assembly shows no irregularities or inconsistencies in the solder work, and the color and luster of the solder appear uniform, so it may be “solder-virgin,” including the output jack.
There is damage to the finish and color near the tip and corners of the headstock; however, this may actually enhance the sense of realism and deepen the significance of the Historic Series.
There are stain-like marks on the pickguard; these may have been caused by contact with a navy blue, dark purple, or black cleaning cloth during long-term storage in a case.
However, thanks to the color of the cloth, this unique character might actually leave a favorable impression.
The pickguard mounting screws securing the body are flat-head screws. Additionally, the toggle switch knobs have a distinctive shape at the tips. Therefore, these parts may have been replaced with authentic aftermarket upgrades.

Cosmetic Condition
・Darkroom Blacklight Check: The topcoat finish on the neck grip, body sides, and back has been corrected and treated in a manner consistent with over-lacquering. The finish work is so skillful and ingenious—preserving the original finish on the back of the headstock and the sides—that one can’t help but be impressed. It’s likely that damage to the finish caused by guitar hangers or stands was addressed through high-quality professional repair work.
There are scratches accompanied by slight dents on parts of the body back and the sides of the body; however, since there are no conspicuous buckle marks or scattered rivet marks, it’s possible that the guitar wasn’t subjected to heavy playing or rough handling after the professional finish repair.
Considering that it has reached its 15th year, this may be an excellent specimen with a beautifully clean appearance.
