A recently produced Gibson Custom PSL1959LPR R-Top!

We’ve just received a Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection Pre-Sold Limited 1959 Les Paul Reissue.
It was manufactured in 2025.
Key features of the PSL (Pre-Sold Limited) version include an R-Top made from locally sourced wood, Custom Backer pickups with Alnico 3 magnets, double classic white bobbins, and an unpotted design, as well as a Vintage Gloss Washed Cherry finish.
The body features a Vintage Gloss finish.
The texture of the vintage gloss finish feels like a middle ground between a standard gloss finish (mirror finish) and a V.O.S. (Vintage Original Spec) finish.
Some of the metal parts and finishes come close to V.O.S. or aged finishes.

R-Top Details
R-Top: This is an official designation used by Gibson’s tonewood suppliers to describe wood that has been carefully selected specifically for the Custom Shop.
The body top on this particular instrument evokes the image of a wide “tiger frame”—a rare feature found on vintage Sunburst Les Paul Standards.
Since book-matched figured maple tops are standard for regular models, this may be a rare specimen that would be difficult to achieve without a special initiative like this PSL project.
Also, due to the burst coloring and vintage gloss finish, it’s hard to fully convey in this image alone, but there are darker flecks present in key areas, running along the grain!

Overall Condition
・There are no issues with the pickups or controls, so it is in its original condition.
・Upon close inspection, scattered scuff marks and minor scratches are visible, but they are very minor.
Furthermore, there is no severe damage to the wood or any critical defects.
・There is a crack along the edge of the jack plate, but it adds to the authentic look.
・Although it is a recent model and appears clean and beautiful, due to the nature of the vintage gloss finish, we have rated its condition as “B+: Some scratches are present, but it is suitable for normal use.”
