The Fender Made in Japan Hama Okamoto Fender Katana Bass in Olympic White has arrived!
Based on the rare Katana Bass—produced by Squier for only a short time around 1985—this signature model recreates the specifications of the custom instrument cherished by Hama Okamoto. It was produced for a limited time in 2021 to commemorate Fender’s 75th anniversary.
It features a basswood body in the distinctive Katana Bass shape, paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, and a 32-inch medium scale. Thanks to its nimble handling and easy-to-grip U-shaped neck, it offers a comfortable playing experience that belies its striking appearance.
It is equipped with a Pure Vintage ’63 Split Single-Coil Precision Bass pickup. With a simple configuration of one volume and one tone control, it delivers a rich, traditional Precision Bass sound with definition and body.
Hama Okamoto’s signature attention to detail is evident throughout, from the red tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard and bridge cover that accentuate the Olympic White body to the strap pin placement, which is designed with balance in mind when the strap is attached.
Although there are some dents on the lower left corner of the body top and along the left edge of the body, as well as minor scratches and some tarnish on the metal parts, the instrument has been cleaned and set up and is in pristine condition.
