USED Fender Japan / SM-2 String Master [11]

A rare Fender Japan 8-string double-neck steel guitar, the "SM-2 String Master."

After the U.S. factory ceased production of steel guitars in the early 1980s, Mr. Norihiro Saito—then a director at Fender Japan and known as the "Japanese Johnny Cash"—set his sights on the parts left behind at the U.S. factory.
With the aim of reviving the steel guitar—an essential instrument for Hawaiian and country music—in Japan, this model was born as a reissue of the legendary String Master.

This model features a 2x8-string neck configuration.

There are numerous dents with paint chips and dents on the body corners, a small hole in the wood near the pickup, and paint cracks. Parts show signs of tarnish and rust, and there are overall scratches and dents.
