A 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom from the late Norlin era.

While retaining the luxurious look of the traditional Les Paul Custom, this guitar features a mahogany body with a maple top, a neck without a volute, and an ebony fingerboard, combined with the numbered humbuckers typical of that era—allowing you to enjoy the unique specifications and sound characteristic of the late ’70s to early ’80s.

Characterized by thick, powerful mid-to-low frequencies and a tenacious humbucker sound, it delivers a rich, full-bodied tone when played clean, with strong midrange projection when driven, making it a great fit for hard rock and blues rock. Its appeal lies in the well-defined, powerful sound unique to the Norlin era—distinct from the vintage PAF-style pickups of the ’50s and ’60s.

1983 marked the end of the Norlin era at Gibson, just before the Kalamazoo factory closed the following year in 1984. Combined with its striking Vintage Cherry Sunburst finish, this model lets you enjoy the unique character of that era—a character distinct from modern Les Paul Custom models.

The serial number is “82593513,” confirming it was manufactured in 1983. A “VCS” stamp is visible inside the cavity, and the finish is identified as Vintage Cherry Sunburst. The guitar is equipped with two engraved, numbered, mesh-wired shielded pickups; the front pickup is stamped “372?883” and the rear pickup is stamped “378883.”Both stamps are believed to indicate a 1983 manufacturing date, and the guitar retains many of the original specifications from that era. The volume pot bears the date stamp “70-034 / R1378319,” and the tone pot bears “71-079 / R1378323.”
The pickguard is missing.
Weather checking is present throughout the instrument. There are also areas of paint chipping associated with this weather checking.
Signs of paint deterioration are visible throughout the guitar, particularly on the headstock top and neck.
Due to age-related deterioration of the finish, it is difficult to identify the wood grain, so the neck material is listed as unknown, partly because this was a transitional period.

There is paint chipping on the first digit of the serial number on the back of the headstock. The binding has cracks and is sun-faded.
Overall, there are scratches, dents, and tarnished or rusted metal, showing signs of wear consistent with its age.
The neck is straight on the 6th-string side but has a slight forward bow on the 1st-string side, showing a slight twist. After being leveled, it is currently in good playing condition.
