The 2023 1963 Firebird V, born from a collaboration between Epiphone and Gibson Custom, has arrived!

Made in collaboration with Gibson Custom, now featuring a rosewood fretboard and a new Vintage Gloss finish

Developed in close collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, the updated 1963 Firebird V Reissue with Maestro Vibrola is now available. This model faithfully reproduces the guitar originally designed by legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich.Released in 1963, the Firebird was Gibson’s first guitar to feature a through-neck construction and has been cherished by artists across a wide range of genres, including blues master Johnny Winter, as well as Keith Richards and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music.

The 1963 Firebird V with Maestro Vibrola brings a vintage-spec Firebird to market at an affordable price. Its distinctive 9-ply through-neck construction features laminated mahogany and walnut, with mahogany used for the body’s wing sections. This design ensures that the tuners, pickups, and bridge are all secured to the same piece of wood, producing excellent resonance, sustain, and a cohesive tone.The neck features a slim-tapered rounded C profile and softly rounded fingerboard edges, providing a comfortable playing experience that feels as if the guitar has already been well-played in.

The rosewood fingerboard features mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays and is equipped with 22 medium-jumbo frets.The side-dot position markers also faithfully reproduce the size and placement found on vintage Firebirds. The headstock is equipped with Kluson planetary “banjo” tuners, recreating the classic Firebird look. It features an Epiphone ABR-1 and a Maestro Vibrola engraved with the Epiphone logo, delivering a vintage look and reliable playability.

The electronics feature two Gibson USA Firebird mini humbuckers (Alnico 5 magnets). With CTS potentiometers, Mallory capacitors, a Switchcraft 3-way pickup selector toggle switch, and a 1/4-inch output jack, this guitar faithfully reproduces not only the classic Firebird V’s appearance but also its sound.

An Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom hard-shell case is included.

It appears to have been used very little since purchase and is in excellent condition; 90% of the frets remain, and we have confirmed that the truss rod rotates 60 degrees in both directions.
