OVATION, with its cutting-edge technology at the time, was the embodiment of many ideas...
OVATION released the MAGNUM BASS series.
The initial MAGNUM I and II models, with their unique body shape reminiscent of the Thunderbirds, attracted attention when Roger Glover of Rainbow and Ross Valory of Journey used them in their music videos. The "I" model had a passive circuit, while the "II" model had a built-in active circuit similar to the Adamas model.
The next model in the lineup is the MAGNUM III, which has a body shape reminiscent of the Gibson EB series, with metal-covered front pickups (with built-in volume for each string), a rear pickup with a special polepiece, and a passive circuit, just like the EB series. The circuit is passive. The bridge was made exclusively for the Magnum series, and you can clearly feel the effort that was put into it at the time.
The neck is reinforced with a graphite bar, and its solidity can be felt from the texture.
This is a rare example of a "heretic" bass guitar that appeared during a transitional period in the evolution of bass guitars.
There is a crack at the pickguard jack.
Pot date indicates that it was manufactured in 1979.
Comes with an external hard case.

そのOVATIONから発売されたのがMAGNUM BASS シリーズです。
初期モデルである MAGNUM IとII はサンダーバードを連想させる独特なボディシェイプから、レインボウのロジャー・グローバーやジャーニーのロス・ヴァロリーらのPVでの使用で注目されました。パッシブサーキットの 「I」に対して同社のアダマスなどと似たアクティブサーキットを内蔵した「II」がラインナップされていました。
当モデルは次期モデルとなるシェイプがギブソンEBシリーズを思わせるボディシェイプを持つMAGNUM III となります。EBシリーズと同様にフロントにはメタルカバーのピックアップ(各弦ごとのボリューム内蔵)と特殊なポールピースを持つリアピックアップ、そしてサーキットはパッシブといった仕様。またブリッジはマグナムシリーズ専用に制作され当時の力の入れようがヒシヒシと伝わります。
またネックにはグラファイトバーの補強が組み込んであり、触った質感からも堅牢さが伝わってきます。
ベースギターの進化の過渡期に現れた「異端児」とも言えるレアな1本です。
ピックガードジャック部に割れが見られます。
ポットデイトから79年製造となります。
