The FG9 is the flagship model of the FG series, handcrafted at the Hamamatsu factory. It incorporates Yamaha's innovative features, including an Adirondack spruce top, bolt-on neck construction, and designs inspired by traditional Japanese crafts like the marquetry-style position markers and the shimenawa-style binding and rosette.

This FG9M offers an elegant and lively tone. Perhaps it's due to the Adirondack spruce top. It delivers a lively sound with a sense of resilience. The mahogany sides and back provide the characteristic warm resonance and crispness. It produces sound with lightness, yet maintains a moderate sense of compression, so even when played forcefully, the sound never feels saturated.Both its playability and tone offer a comforting quality that makes you want to keep playing forever.

While designed for vocal accompaniment, its rich volume and sustain make it perfectly suitable for fingerstyle instrumentals. Its clear, uncluttered sound should easily handle the technical demands of bluegrass or fingerstyle. With excellent projection and balance, it should also perform well in recording situations. FG9は浜松の工場でハンドメイドされるFGシリーズのフラッグシップ・モデル。アディロンダック・スプルース・トップ、ボルト・オン・ネック構造、寄木細工風のポジション・マークやしめ縄風のバインディングとロゼッタという日本の伝統工芸にインスパイアされたデザインなど、ヤマハの新機軸を盛り込んだ製品です。

こちらFG9Mは上品かつ軽快な音色です。トップ材がアディロンダック・スプルースのせいでしょうか。軽快な中にも粘り強さを感じさせてくれます。またサイド＆バックがマホガニーならではのウォームなレゾナンスと切れの良さを持ち合わせています。軽やかに音が出てくれますが、適度なコンプレッション感があり、強く弾いても音が飽和する印象はありません。演奏性、音色ともに、いつまでも弾いていたくなる心地良さがあります。

歌の伴奏用に設計されたということですが、音量、サスティンが豊かですので、フィンガー・スタイルのインストゥルメンタルにも十分使えると思います。音の淀みがないので、技巧的なブルーグラスやフィンガー・スタイルにも十分追従するでしょう。音の抜け、バランスが良く、レコーディングでの取り回しも良さそうです。シンプルですが飽きの来ないデザインも秀逸。
