This 1998 Martin D-28, one of the most famous acoustic guitars of all time, features non-scalloped bracing, a low-profile neck with a 42.9mm nut width, gold leaf logo, black pickguard, and striped ebony fingerboard and bridge.
The entire body, including the pickguard, has been over-lacquered to give it a satin finish, although it is unclear if this was intentional. There is a crack repair mark on the center seam of the top bridge. The sides and back appear to be less damaged, perhaps due to the over-lacquering, but the top is dotted with dents. The paint film on the neck appears to be original, but there are dents, peeling paint, and cloudiness. There is noticeable paint roughness on the front and back of the headstock, and rust has developed on the plating of the pegs.
Our repair department has rewound the back binding, made a new heel cap, replaced the nut, corrected the peeling braces, and rubbed the frets together.
The neck is in proper condition, and the truss rod has been checked for 60 degrees left and right. The frets have been rubbed and there are no dents, and about 70% of the height remains. Both playability and sound are perfect.
Playability is good and it sounds great. Recommended as a practical instrument in player's condition.
