The Standard was changed from the Les Paul shape to the SG shape in 1961 in response to the rising popularity of electric guitars and the demand for them in the music scene.

This model was made in 1971 with a narrow head, 3-piece mahogany neck, solid mahogany body, and rosewood fingerboard.

The head has a closed "O" Gibson logo with dots, a Kluson Double Line/Double Ring "Gibson Deluxe", a 40mm nut width, and a slightly lower and longer positioned crown inlay (after 1970) on the net side. The nut width is 40mm, and the position of the crown inlay has been slightly lowered and lengthened toward the net side since the 1970s.

The neck has slightly rounded corners with a volute at the base of the head and is jointed to the body at the 19th fret.

The body has a beveled contour with softened edges, a large open pickup cavity, commonly known as a "lunch box," and a large guard with pickups mounted on it, commonly known as a "bad wing" (there are some cracks repaired), which are inherited from 1966 and later, The control cavity is large and open.
Chrome parts are used for hardware, and the wired ABR-1 with patent number has had the saddle replaced with a brass one.
The Maestro Long Vibrola with rail logo is equipped, and the sound with a good tension and middle is a must-have for SG lovers.

The pickups are equipped with two Sticker Numbered pickups, CTS pots, Pactron film capacitors, and Carter jacks. Pot dates are "XXX7040," "13770XX," "13XXXXX," and "13770XXX" to indicate that it was made in 1970, and the serial number confirms that it is a 1971 unit.
