Special Semi-Hollowは、トレブル & ベース・ピックアップにMcCarty III、そしてミドル・ピックアップにNarrowfield(ナロウフィールド)ピックアップを搭載したH-S-H(ハム-“シングル”-ハム )ピックアップ・レイアウトで構成されるモデルです。
McCarty IIIピックアップには、長きに渡るヴィンテージ・ピックアップの研究から、ピックアップのサウンド解析やチューニング技術の改善に至るまで、ポール・リード・スミスとPRSの新製品エンジニアリング・チームが近年の製品開発で培った全てのノウハウが凝縮されています。
PRS McCarty IIIピックアップは、ヴィンテージ・ギターにインスパイアされたハムバッカーであり、温かみのある芳醇なヴィンテージ・サウンドと、歌声のように透き通った明瞭なトーンを兼ね備え、Narrwfieldピックアップはハム・ノイズを抑えつつ、シングル・コイル・サウンド特有のバイト感と、アンサンブルの中でも抜けるクリアかつパワフルなサウンドを生み出します。

The Special Semi-hollow is now available in Emerald color with 10-top grade figured maple!
The Special Semi-Hollow consists of a H-S-H (hum-"single"-ham) pickup layout with a McCarty III treble and bass pickup and a Narrowfield middle pickup. The McCarty III pickups are equipped with a McCarty III pickup and a Narrowfield pickup for the middle pickup.
The McCarty III pickups represent the culmination of all the expertise that Paul Reed Smith and the PRS new product engineering team have accumulated in recent product development, from their long study of vintage pickups to their sound analysis of pickups and improvements in tuning techniques. The PRS McCarty III pickups are the result of all the know-how Paul Reed Smith and the PRS new product engineering team have accumulated in recent years.
The PRS McCarty III pickups are vintage guitar-inspired humbuckers that combine a warm, mellow vintage sound with a clear, singing tone. The Narrwfield pickups produce a clear, powerful sound that can carry through an ensemble, with the bite characteristic of a single coil sound, while suppressing hum.
Combined with a 5-way blade switch and a mini-toggle switch for coil tapping the McCarty III pickups, this creates 12 different sound variations to fit any genre. The tone control can be turned down for a fat, sweet sound, or opened up for a shimmering sound, allowing for a wide variety of sound changes.
Other specs include a maple top, mahogany back, 22-fret & 25" scale mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, Phase III locking tuners, and a PRS original design Gen III tremolo unit. The semi-hollow body construction with f-holes gives the guitar's tone a pleasant air and depth while reducing the volume difference between humbuckers and single coils.
