The flagship model FG9/FS9 series, handmade in Japan, is an acoustic guitar with a very rich volume, clear sound, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the way the player plays, making it an ideal instrument for singer-songwriters. After 60 years, the FG/FS9 series was introduced as a new Yamaha flagship model/series, and the long-awaited FG/FS9 X series of electric guitars is now available!

FG9RX

The dreadnought-style FG9 RX is a handmade model made in Japan with Adirondack spruce on the front and Indian rosewood on the sides and back. Its powerful and clear sound supports singer/songwriter's songs. The Atmosfeel(TM) pickup system allows the sound to come out on stage as it should.

Powerful reach and clarity

The FG9 and FS9 have outstanding tonal reach, excellent clarity, and subtle expressiveness, characteristics that make them very well suited for vocal accompaniment.

Adirondack Spruce and Tapered Edge Finish

One of the unique features of the FG9 and FS9 is their tapered-edge adirondack spruce faceplates. This provides structural strength and at the same time allows the body to vibrate more effectively, contributing to both power and delicacy.

Bolt-on Neck Joint

The neck features a new structural design that combines bolted-on and glued sections to increase body vibration and ease maintenance. The joint between the neck and body is finished and adjusted with high precision.

Elegant and understated Japanese aesthetics

The distinctive position markings on the fingerboard are similar to Japanese Kumiki work, and the rope inlays and purfling design around the soundhole are based on Japanese culture.

A Scientific Approach Fused with Technology

In designing the FG9, we employed state-of-the-art acoustic measurement and 3D structural measurement processes to understand as much as possible how the physical structure affects the acoustic properties, and repeated prototypes were built by our skilled custom store builders.

Body Shape & Style

The FG9 and FS9 are available in two body shapes: the FG9 is a dreadnought style and the FS9 is a concert style.

The FG9's large, broad body responds to stirring playing with a powerful bass and far-reaching sound.

The slightly smaller body of the FS9 produces a sensitive response and balanced sound that accentuates delicate, fine single notes.

Atmosfeel(TM) Pickup System

The Atmosfeel 3-way pickup system reproduces the natural nuances of the guitar's sonic content that cannot be picked up by conventional pickups. The piezo sensor on the undersaddle pickup picks up the vibration of the strings, the condenser microphone mounted inside the body picks up the airy feeling inside the body of the guitar, and the contact sensor pickup made of thin and durable piezoelectric synthetic paper attached to the back of the front panel picks up the high frequencies derived from the vibration of the front panel. By combining these three sounds, the natural acoustic sound of the guitar is reproduced in its entirety.

Sound creation is done simply by operating the three knobs. The Bass EQ allows you to adjust the peak EQ to suit your use case, such as when you need to cut the low frequencies in a band formation or when you want to support the low frequencies in fingerstyle playing. The center frequency can be adjusted to suit the use case, for example, when a band needs to cut low frequencies, or when fingerstyle playing requires low-frequency support.
