Late CBS period, 1978 Fender Telecaster, modified.
This is a player's vintage with the rugged looks characteristic of the 70's and enhanced practicality through solid maintenance and modification.
Telecasters of the late 70's were characterized by a bright and hard sounding character, combining an ash body with a one-piece maple neck. Many models from this period are slightly heavier than the rest, but they have a tight low end and edgy high end, and they deliver a good tone from clean to crunch. This model is no exception, and has the sharpness of a 70's Tele.
The neck was refinished because the paint was cracked and damaged due to age. In addition, the neck was refretted (Jescar 43080) and the nut was replaced, resulting in a vintage but stress-free playing experience. The medium size frets are of moderate height and have been updated for a modern playing feel.
The bridge has been replaced with an ESP unit. Only the inner 6-string saddle has a 1/16" diameter, slightly longer thread, but the other strings have 1.5mm diameter threads, so there are no problems with playing the instrument. The bridge replacement has also improved intonation accuracy and sustain.
Pickups have been replaced with DiMarzio pickups. The front pickup is a Twang King Neck (DP172) and the rear is a Pre B-1 Tele (DP412), which reproduces the slightly dry tone tendency of the 70's with more modern output and response for a bright, burly Telecaster sound. The clean tone is sparkling, and when distorted, the core midrange comes through comfortably.
Both the appearance and specifications retain the late '70s Telecaster character, but with the practicality to be used in the field. This is an attractive modified Telecaster with both vintage style and player's condition.
The paint has deteriorated and lost color due to age, burn marks that look like burn marks, blackened maple neck, and rust on metal parts, giving it a deep character that tells of its 45+ years of age. It has a strong vintage feel unique to one that has been played for many years, and has an atmosphere that only a well-used instrument can produce.
This is one of the relatively reasonable priced vintage instruments in the vintage market, taking into account the condition and specification changes.
The neck is in good playing condition with no noticeable abnormality.
