The flagship model FG9, handmade in Japan, is an acoustic guitar with a very rich volume, clear sound, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the player's playing style, making it an ideal instrument for singer-songwriters.

The front board is made of Adirondack spruce, a rare wood that is hard and light. The backboard is thicker to enhance its performance as a reflector, thereby strengthening the acoustic radiation originating from the frontboard. At the neck-body joint, the neck and body are bolted on in a structure that moderately separates the neck and body, and the design concentrates the vibration energy of the strings and body on the body. This design achieves both the "quick rise and powerful volume" required of the dreadnought style and the "clarity" characteristic of Yamaha's acoustic guitars. The inner label, visible through the soundhole, is made of a Japanese traditional lacquer.
