Fujigen's Blue Bell Mandolins Are Now in Stock!
Blue Bell is a brand that, ahead of its domestic rivals, introduced vintage Martin and Gallagher replica guitars, and further expanded its lineup to include items such as banjos and mandolins. The mandolins were manufactured by Fuji Stringed Instruments (now Fujigen). They were well-regarded for their meticulous craftsmanship, typical of Japanese-made instruments.
This F-8 is a replica of Gibson’s legendary F-5 model. While the lineup included versions with block position marks, this particular instrument features dot inlays. Additionally, while the brand’s early F-type models had an elongated body, this is a later, improved version.
There is deterioration in the body binding, resulting in corrosion, discoloration, cracks, and missing sections. Notable missing areas have been repaired with celluloid.Part of the pickguard binding had also come loose. It has been reattached, but because the binding has shrunk, gaps have formed at the sharp edges. While there are some scuffs, cloudiness or dirt on the finish, and rust or tarnish on the metal parts, there are no noticeable dents or deep scratches.
Although there is little room left to tighten the truss rod, the neck is in good condition. Very slight wear is visible on the frets, but there are no dents that would interfere with playing, and approximately 90% of the original fretting height remains. Both playability and sound are excellent.
A hard case for the F-type is included. There is some damage to the interior padding and foam where the body corners come into contact, but this does not affect its practical use.
This instrument is highly recommended not only for beginners to bluegrass but also for those considering incorporating a mandolin into their pop or rock music.
