Featuring a Light Aged finish by Murphy Lab—complete with fine cracks and aged hardware—this guitar exudes a vintage charm that belies its modern origins.

In 1958, the Les Paul Standard—the first to feature a sunburst finish—marked the beginning of what would later become the legendary “Burst” series. This Historic Reissue thoroughly recreates that pivotal year, down to the materials, construction, and parts. Furthermore, thanks to Murphy Lab’s hand-aging process, it offers an “authentic vintage experience” that goes beyond a simple reissue.

The body features a classic configuration combining a one-piece lightweight mahogany body with a two-piece plain maple top. By deliberately choosing “plain” maple rather than flame maple, it faithfully recreates the rugged, dignified look unique to 1958. Additionally, hide glue is used for the joints, and combined with the long tenon construction, this achieves the same tone and response as the originals.

Although the neck is a ’58 model, this special edition features the popular Authentic ’59 Medium C-Shape—a profile unique to the ’59 Les Paul that is neither too thin nor too thick and remains one of the most beloved among Les Paul enthusiasts. Paired with rolled binding, it reproduces a grip that feels natural in the hand.

It is equipped with two Custombuckers. These reproduce the open, deep tone characteristic of vintage PAFs and respond with extreme sensitivity to picking nuances. The hand-wired circuit, featuring CTS pots and paper-in-oil capacitors, is designed to capture the authentic sound of Gibson’s golden age.

Due to the aged finish, it’s difficult to gauge the exact amount of wear, but the guitar remains in relatively good condition. Of course, playability—including the truss rod—is excellent.
