The 2025 Gibson Custom Historic Collection 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue 2-Pickup VOS Ebony has arrived!
This Historic Collection model, reissued by the Gibson Custom Shop, is based on the 1957 Les Paul Custom—affectionately known as “Black Beauty.” Featuring a black body with multi-ply binding, mother-of-pearl inlays, and gold hardware, it exudes the elegance befitting the top-of-the-line model in the Les Paul family.
Unlike the standard Les Paul, this model features a one-piece solid mahogany body without a maple top. It combines a solid mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard. The rich, resilient low-to-midrange and smooth harmonics, combined with the crisp attack of the ebony fingerboard, produce a sound that is full-bodied yet well-defined.
The neck features a 50s Rounded Medium C profile with moderate thickness and roundness. It features a 12-inch radius ebony fingerboard, Historic Medium-Jumbo frets, and a nylon nut, offering a grip characteristic of the 1950s while providing playability that accommodates bends and vibrato with ease.
The guitar is equipped with Custombucker Alnico III pickups in both the neck and bridge positions. These pickups offer the open harmonics characteristic of an unpotted design, along with a response that delicately follows the nuances of your picking dynamics.
The hardware also features vintage-style components, such as a No-Wire ABR-1 bridge, a lightweight aluminum stopbar, and Kluson Waffleback tuners with pearloid buttons. The subdued luster of the VOS finish and the weathered patina of the metal parts give the guitar the appearance of a vintage instrument that has stood the test of time.
Due to the VOS finish, it is difficult to determine whether any marks are the result of normal wear and tear; however, there are no signs of use on the frets or elsewhere, and the guitar remains in pristine condition.
This is a reissue model crafted with the utmost care by the Custom Shop, combining the overwhelming presence unique to the “Black Beauty” with the rich, deep tone characteristic of a one-piece solid mahogany body.
